Body shape scrum isometrics

Description

Static, partner or wall-based isometric holds to groove safe scrummaging body shapes before introducing any pushing or collisions.

Purpose

Build core, neck, and posterior chain endurance while reinforcing alignment and bracing habits that transfer directly to scrums.

Learning Outcomes

  • Neutral spine with hips slightly above knees
  • Chin tucked, neck packed, shoulders connected
  • Even foot pressure and stable base under load

Equipment

  • Wall/sled or shields
  • Scrum caps (optional)
  • Cones for lanes

Setup

Create lanes at a wall or behind a scrum sled. Players assume scrum body shapes and hold for 10–20 seconds per rep, 4–6 reps, with coach cuing adjustments (spine, feet, bind targets).
